NATIONAL CO-WORKERS
Sudan
In
Sudan we are working mostly with the movement that Jan Ernst Gabrielsen
was part of starting, Sudan Pentecostal Churches, but we co-operate a
lot with all the various church denominations through Sudan Church
Board. Many of the leader seminars that Jan Ernst Gabrielsen has in
Sudan are organized by this board and they have participants from a
whole range of Christian fellowships.
Egypt
Here
we have been working mostly with the big Pentecostal movement,
Assemblies of God, and their leader, Ayad Shenouda, who is now 88 years
old. He is the pastor of a church in Shubra, a district in Cairo. We
have many contacts in this movement and we are working with pastor Emil
Boutros Boktar, the pastor in the biggest Pentecostal church in Cairo
and in Egypt. We are also working together with George Hassad, who is
part of the leadership of the movement in addition to running a big
children's home and a Bible school in Assiout. We are also working with
Pastor Moody Girgis in Cairo, who is running a growing church in the
district of Giza.
Libya
Here
we have had leader seminars in the capital of Tripoli together with the
local Union Church. It is an interdenominational Christian fellowship
and it runs good work. Most Christians in Libya come from other
countries, and there are very few local Christians. We have also been
supporting Sudanese Christians who have been working here among the
underground Christians.
Kenya
Here
our main co-workers are East Africa Pentecostal Churches, and with
their 1,200 churches spread all over the country it is great and
exciting work. We are working mostly on leader training and a challenge
for church planting in the still unreached areas of the country. We
support many native missionaries in unreached areas among the Samburu
people in the north as well as among the Somalese who live in
north-east, with the city of Garissa as the starting point.
Somalia
We
support two native Somalese missionaries. One of them is working in an
underground church in Garissa and in many other churches of this kind in
north-eastern Kenya. The other one is working in Somaliland, where it
is more peaceful than in Somalia itself. They both have contacts in
Somalia and travel there in order to support and help the Christians
there.
Burundi
Here
we are working together with Bishop Charles Nduwumukama, who is leading
a Pentecostal movement called Full Gospel Churches. We have only
visited his church in Gitega and we are planning leader seminars for
leaders from the whole country and from many various church
denominations.
